I absolutely love Women’s History Month. I love it as an opportunity to write into the generally known history the many women who have been overlooked or under-recognized for their accomplishments.
And increasingly, I focus on tomorrow’s history that we each make by our actions today.

That’s a no-brainer, right? But I’m serious. Studies have shown that women lose between $400,000 and over $1,000,000 cumulatively over a lifetime of work in comparison with men in equal jobs with equal experience. You deserve to be paid fairly and equally to others with your qualifications.
Equal Pay Day was March 15 this year. Saying that women make on average 83 cents to men’s $1 is an oversimplification because there are huge variances based on race and ethnicity.

In its annual list of the World’s Greatest Leaders, Fortune magazine applauds the accomplishments of 23 women leaders in the coveted list of 50. That’s 46 percent women on this list of top leaders in government, business, activism and cultural influence. It’s the most women lauded this way ever (a 53 percent jump from last year’s list) when only 15 women made the notable group.

While it is always important to celebrate the women who have paved the path and laid the foundation for my fellow sisters and I to continue to blaze trails and break glass ceilings, history is in the making every single day, and the women’s movement looks very different now in how women are choosing to rewrite the narrative.
