What if I told you that I am grateful for all the mistakes that I have made in life because they have led me to discover who I am and to the true beauty of this life?

By profession I am an attorney. I am not a therapist, I am not a psychiatrist, I am not a healthcare professional. Yet, I have authored a top-selling book, SAFE From the Pain: How to Lead a Life Free, Happy and Good. I am an emotional wellness advocate, and have led many retreats that focus on well-being. I came to this path after experiencing decades of emotional trauma; realizing and recognizing my pain; and successfully addressing my issues to live my life in peace, filled with joy.

As I see it, wellbeing is more than an indulgent day spent at a spa. It is taking the necessary time to deeply explore and unearth feelings that can unknowingly hinder us in our day-today lives and detrimentally impact our behaviors, decisions and personal fulfilment. Research shows that emotional wellbeing influences our mental state and scientific evidence proves it affects our physical health as well.

My own lack of self-worth and inability to acknowledge that I was in emotional pain led to a downward spiral in my life. It took me 38 years to realize that this is not how life should work. I hadn’t embraced the whole of me and who I was. The whole of me includes the good things and the emotional pain and shame that I carried for far too long. It was shame of being sexually assaulted as a teenager, having two failed marriages, losing my home, multiple health issues and feeling like a disgrace within Indian society, which, among other things, deeply frowns upon divorce.

Today, I can honestly say that I am finally comfortable and happy in my own skin because of the journey I took. And through this path of self-discovery, I decided to help others. I created the S.A.F.E. Method, a powerful approach to working through emotional trauma and pain. I speak on how on emotionally safety and wellness to corporations and hospitals.  I provide retreats for divorcing and struggling couples to teach them how to address their feelings during a highly charged period in their lives. I host individual retreats for those seeking a path to emotional healing. Finally, I developed an online course - coming out at this month! - where I can share my learnings to a broader audience.

I took the “mess” in my life and made it my “message”. If I can help others achieve emotional wellness, it is a deeply felt reward for the journey I have conquered.
