A study of women’s professional ambition released by the Center for Talent Innovation found a striking demographic disparity: black women are far more comfortable with wanting and pursuing power than white women. 22% of African American women said they “aspired to a powerful position with a prestigious title,” whereas 8% of white women said the same.

The 41-year-old Thomas officiated some NFL team minicamps last year, and was also the first woman to officiate a college bowl game in 2009.
