The Power to Reshape Fashion Around Women’s Real Lives

I was leaving a meeting with a U.S.-based manufacturer when he asked what sizes I offered. I said, “Extra small through extra large.” His response? “I can’t believe you’re encouraging women to be fat and out of shape.”
In that instant, I knew I couldn’t work with someone whose views were not only discriminatory but fundamentally opposed to my values. Walking away set my production back, but it was the only choice. I will never compromise on creating clothing that celebrates and supports women of all shapes and sizes, nor will I tolerate inequity in my business relationships.
Ellie Arbee was born out of a gap I saw in women’s apparel: clothing that truly fits a woman’s life, full days, real movement, no costume changes, while honoring craftsmanship and style. I design with purpose, champion inclusive sizing, and produce sustainably in small batches, all here in the U.S. My commitment is to create fewer, better pieces that last, resisting the fashion industry’s push for speed, volume, and waste.
This work has shifted my own mindset. I now view restraint not as a limitation but as a strength, a way to protect integrity, reduce waste, and ensure that every piece serves the woman who wears it.
Sara Blakely inspires me for the same reasons I pursue this path: she built something groundbreaking without losing her authenticity. She’s proof that you can challenge outdated norms, build with intention, and lead with honesty.
If power is the ability to choose, what we make, how we show up, and what we walk away from, then my choice is clear: I’m building a brand that respects women. And a business that does too.
