The Power to Make Motherhood Feel Beautiful Again

When I became a new mom, I expected the usual challenges, sleepless nights, constant feedings, all the things everyone warns you about. I loved choosing outfits for my son, but the moment I started using them, the reality set in: these items weren’t built for the hands, bodies, or emotions of postpartum women. They were created for store shelves and photos, not for the mother awake at 3 a.m., recovering, vulnerable, and trying her best.

That realization felt like a form of imbalance. It shouldn’t be considered normal for something as routine as dressing your newborn to feel frustrating, overwhelming, or even painful. Instead of waiting for someone else to name the problem, I chose to act. Mama Coco began as a decision to design with caregivers in mind. I created garments that are simple, intuitive, and supportive pieces that acknowledge the weight a caregiver carries in those early days. Taking action in that moment was my way of saying: parents deserve better.

The most meaningful leadership shift I’ve made since starting this journey is letting go of perfection. I realized that if I waited for the “right moment,” nothing would change. As I’ve grown the company, I’ve had to grow myself. I’ve learned to shift away from perfection and toward progress, to trust ideas even before they’re fully polished, and to listen deeply to moms in our community, to retailers, and to evolve and improve together. That openness has shaped better products and a more grounded sense of purpose.

I want mothers to feel seen. I want caregivers to feel supported. And I want the everyday moments of early parenthood, especially the hard ones, to become just a little bit gentler because someone decided their experience mattered enough to design for it.
