What Journalism Taught Me About Leadership in Finance

My professional journey has taken me through journalism, writing, and entrepreneurship. While these fields may seem quite different, I have learned that they all share something similar: the ability to listen, understand, and communicate with care.
As a journalist and writer, I came to appreciate the importance of asking questions, researching thoughtfully, and recognizing that everyone has a different story.
When I co-founded SETO Financial Inc. with my partner Ali Sayeed in Toronto in 2018, I brought those same values into financial consulting.
Financial matters can sometimes feel overwhelming. Behind every question about one's everyday financial choices or financial planning is a person or business with unique circumstances, concerns, and goals.
I believe meaningful guidance begins with listening rather than making assumptions. My approach has always been to help make financial conversations clearer, more personal, and approachable.
Entrepreneurship has also taught me patience, adaptability, and the importance of continuing to learn. Building a business is an ongoing journey, and I certainly don't believe I have all the answers.
Alongside my responsibilities at SETO Financial, I continue to pursue my passion for journalism, writing, and children's literature.
To me, the power to change does not always require a grand gesture. Sometimes, it begins with treating someone with kindness, sharing knowledge, or helping another person feel more confident about their next step.
I believe even small, thoughtful actions can make a meaningful difference.
