3 Lessons From Olympic Medalists Alysa Liu and Eileen Gu for Women’s History Month

Issue 2877— March 2, 2026

Women won eight of Team USA’s 12 gold medals at the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina.

Two thirds of the gold!

That’s historic.

It’s even more remarkable when you realize that the first time women were allowed to compete in the Olympics was 1900, when there were 22 women and 241 men. The women were limited to five sports.

This year at the Winter Olympics, women made up 47% of the athletes.

I was particularly obsessed with skaters Alysa Liu and Eileen Gu. Yes, their athletic performances were outstanding. But even more impressive were their self knowledge, confidence, and communication skills. They gave us leadership lessons that are as history making as the shiny metal disks that confirm their athletic prowess.

I’m hosting a conversation to unpack three of the lessons that can help you thrive in the world as it is while transforming it into the world it should be if you’re going to have a chance to reach your potential.

Join me for 45 minutes and you’ll walk away with both insights and practical skills to:

1. Get razor sharp clarity about your intention. To do that, you have to get in touch with who you are. It starts with knowing your own history and how you want to create your future. When Eileen Gu, 22-year-old Olympic freestyle skating superstar, was asked how she thinks, she replied that she’s intentional about it. She applies an analytical lens to her own thought patterns. She said that since she is young, neuroplasticity works in her favor. In other words, she can learn and shape her thoughts.  And if she can control what she thinks, she can control who she becomes.

2. Do not wait till you’re confident to start trying to achieve your intention. There’s a better way to become confident, or as confident as you need to be to lead your dreams rather than chase them. I think confidence is overrated .

3. Stand in your power, including when challenged.  Especially when it’s challenged. We’ll discuss how you can answer the question you want to answer like Eileen Gu and how to skate to your own music like Alysa Liu.

Give yourself the gift of making your own history.

 See you inside.

 P. S. Though the men’s team laughed when the President made a lame joke that the women’s team would have to be invited to the White house, women are definitely, joyfully, invited to this conversation. And we’re happy to include men who support women’s sports, women’s leadership, and equal respect for all.

See you March 4! It’s an open house, so feel free to bring your favorite libation and snack.
